The destination

Living in Los Alcázares

Seven kilometres of protected shoreline on the shore of the Mar Menor define Los Alcázares, whose name comes from the Arabic al-qasr, 'the palace'. Playa de los Narejos recovered its Blue Flag after difficult years for the lagoon, and the Día del Caldero tradition — a giant fish stew — is a genuinely local culinary festival. The old San Javier airport closed in 2019; Corvera, around 35 km away, is now the main air gate, supplemented by road and regional rail.
